IntroDUCKtion: Welcoming New Ducks

With the class of 2013 graduated and moving on from the college life, the UO gets fix to welcome the next wave of Ducks. With classes starting on September 30th, incoming freshmen spend the summertime proverb goodbye to friends, buying supplies for their dorm room, and preparing their parents for their departure.

But throughout the month of July and into early August, incoming freshmen flock to campus before their move-in appointment in September for a two-solar day orientation called IntroDUCKtion. In a jam-packed session, incoming freshmen register for classes, participate in various campus activities, and meet and interact with other freshmen and current students.

Hosted by the Pupil Orientation Program, IntroDUCKtion includes various activities for students and parents to prepare them for the fall. Afterwards separating students from their parents right off the bat, each plan, led by current UO students, focuses on getting the freshmen and parents ready to take the first steps of becoming a UO student or parent.

From informational sessions almost classes and majors to skits on social issues to an activity fair showcasing the various clubs on campus, freshmen have the opportunity to get a glimpse into the next 4 years and the possibilities the UO tin can provide.

Students, and even parents, have the option to stay in the residence halls, with the majority of parents and students doing so. Students are frequently paired up with a random roommate. Some roommates at IntroDUCKtion never speak to one another after the session is over, while others quickly develop first college friendships.

"We shared stuff about our lives and even decided to both audition for one of the acapella groups together!" Determan said.

Later on the ii-day session, the freshmen return home for the remainder of summer. With a petty more insight into the college life from IntroDUCKtion, freshmen, including Determan, look forward to the next pace.

"I'm really excited for the fall and everything that is to come. Higher is a new chapter in my life and I couldn't exist excited for it. I just hope to meet every bit many new people every bit I can!"
